The Rio Rancho Police Department responded to a two-vehicle accident at 10:40 a.m. last Thursday on Northern Boulevard at 10th Street. Rio Rancho police and fire personnel responded by the dozens and even Chief Bob Boone showed up at the scene. One of the victims was trapped and a PHI Air Medical helicopter arrived at the scene at 10:53 a.m. and lifted off with the victim at 11:01 a.m. Another victim was treated at scene. According to Lt. Pete Camacho from RRPD, the airlifted victim, Robert Rivera of Rio Rancho, is being charged with aggravated DWI. The charge is his fourth for DWI and is considered aggravated because he refused to submit to a breathalyzer test. Camacho said Rivera sustained a fracture to his femur and was transferred to University of New Mexico Hospital.
