She said Vigil was admitted into University of New Mexico Hospital from the Metropolitan Detention Center, after a suicide attempt.
Vigil, along, with Christopher Midyette, 19, were charged on Nov. 7 with the murder of Brittni Carlini.
According to Albuquerque Police Department spokesman John Walsh, on Nov. 5, Vigil and Midyette allegedly struck Carlini in the head several times with a baseball bat, took her to a mesa area near Rio Rancho, buried her body and set it ablaze.
Vigil had legal troubles as a juvenile in Rio Rancho. He was arrested in 2006 for two counts of burglary, cruelty to animals and criminal damage to property.
He was 15 at the time and was convicted of the arson charge, spending two years in the Youth Diagnostic and Development Center. His arson act allegedly caused the death of two pets.
Two months earlier, he allegedly broke into the same home and stole some items.
