CHS briefsThe Cleveland High School Baseball Booster Club is planning to have a dodge ball tournament in the CHS gym on Nov. 22 starting at 10:30 a.m.
Cleveland baseball has fundraiser: dodgeball
There will be three age brackets: middle school, high school and adults. Plans call for seven-person teams; six males and a female or six females and a male.
Participants will need to sign a waiver to play. The entry fees are $15 per adult, $10 per youngster. Each team gets a guarantee of at least two matches in what will be a round-robin tournament.

Night of Hoops planned for Storm teamsThe first “Night of Hoops” at Cleveland High School is planned for Monday, Nov. 23, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Night of Hoops is sponsored by the Cleveland High School Basketball Boosters Club. It will feature the freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams conducting scrimmages.
There will be performances by the girls’ varsity team, the band, CHS cheerleaders, the Stormettes and the team mascot.
The event is free and open to the public. Rudy’s BBQ will cater the event; the cost for food is $7 for adults, $3 for kids (10 and under) and the kids get a hot dog and chips.
There will be several silent auctions, with all the proceeds going to the CHS basketball boosters. Some of the feature items are an autographed basketball of Hall of Famer Rick Barry, a baseball signed by Hall of Famer Joe Morgan, an autographed hockey stick of Mike Eruzione (team captain for the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team) and much more.
Other briefsU-17 boys’ team needs good playersA 17-and-under competitive boys’ soccer team is looking for three or four field players.

Several of the Cleveland High varsity and junior varsity soccer players plan to be joining this club team for this upcoming spring.
Umpires need help for one of their ownOn June 25, Alex Roberts, a 16-year-old umpire, in the United States Specialty Sports Association, suffered acute cardiac arrest, resulting in the lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain, causing severe brain damage.
Since then, Roberts has been in various acute long-term health care facilities in Albuquerque. He remains in a coma and is assisted with breathing and feeding tubes and was recently admitted to Craig Hospital in Denver, where he will receive extensive rehabilitation therapy.
On Nov. 28, the Albuquerque Thunderbirds will be hosting an “Alex Roberts Night,” for which USSSA umpires will be selling tickets prior to the event for $10 each.

No aces in local contestNobody sank a hole-in-one at the recent Applied Materials “hole-in-One Challenge for Charity” event, raising money for St. Felix Pantry.
Chamisa Hills Country Club pro reported the contestants like this: “Kim Ford screamed a ball within inches of hitting the flag stick, Ron Eubanks carved a beauty into the pin, Terry Barker ripped an iron which never left the stick. Doug Cramer feathered a pretty iron shot, Annie Martin’s ball never left the pin, Dennis Schramm worked a nice hybrid on the green and Chris Lando hit a nice draw landing on the putting surface.”
Eubanks was the winner, Harp said, after hitting a shot that landed 5-feet, 6-inches from the pin. Rounding out the top five finishers were Barker (16-9), Schramm (23-9), Martin (24-8) and Lando (28-3).
A qualifying event was held at CHCC on Nov. 7; the 50 finalists competed last Sunday.
Lobos ‘think pink’Nearly 1,100 women in New Mexico are diagnosed with invasive breast cancer each year and on Saturday (Nov. 21) the Lobos will be hosting a “Think Pink” football game against Colorado State to create awareness for breast cancer and offer support in finding a cure.
To support survivors and their families, a tailgate reception will be held for breast cancer survivors and they will be honored during half time. In addition, the team will wear pink ribbons on the back of their helmets to honor the breast cancer survivors in our state.
Trot with the turkeysThe ninth annual Turkey Trek, which includes a 5K run, a two-mile fitness walk and a 1K kids fun run, will be held on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, in Albuquerque.
This year’s race will benefit The Storehouse (thestorehouseabq.org). In 2008, The Storehouse provided 3.16 million meals to the hungry of New Mexico.
The Turkey Trek will use the USA Track and Field-certified Nob Hill 5K course, so times are eligible for record consideration by USATF.

Get on the bus, GusThe Sandoval County chapter of the Lobo Club is looking into the possibility of providing bus service from Rio Rancho, and possibly Bernalillo, to University of New Mexico men’s basketball games.

T-Birds play exhibition on November 25The Albuquerque Thunder-birds will play the Los Angeles D-Fenders in an exhibition game on Nov. 25, at 6 p.m., at Tingley Coliseum.
Admission is free with a non-perishable food item, or attendees can pay a $4 general admission. The team will be partnering with the Roadrunner Food Bank, with all food and half of the gate receipts going to the organization.
“The T-Birds will begin the 2009-10 season against the Bakersfield Jam Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. The team will play the D-Fenders, on Nov. 28 at 7 pm.

Combo tickets for New Mexico BowlThe New Mexico Bowl and the University of New Mexico are teaming up to provide quality entertainment at a discount price with a combo ticket for the games on Dec. 19.
The $40 ticket gives you admission to the fourth annual New Mexico Bowl at 2:30 p.m. and the UNM men’s basketball game that evening against Creighton at 7.
“UNM has been a fantastic partner since the New Mexico Bowl was just an idea and this is another example,” said Jeff Siembieda, New Mexico Bowl executive director. “We appreciate them working with us on this promotion which is an amazing opportunity for fans to see two great events in one day for a terrific value.”
This year’s New Mexico Bowl, featuring a representative from the MWC and WAC, will be played at University Stadium. The game, which kicks off the FBS postseason, will be televised nationally on ESPN and ESPN HD.
New Mexico and Creighton face off across the street from the stadium in The Pit. The game is part of the Mountain West Conference/Missouri Valley Conference Challenge.

Rodeo returns to Star CenterSanta Ana Star Center will be the site of the third annual New Mexico Stampede PRCA Rodeo Jan. 29-30.
The rodeo will feature bull riding, bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, and more, as more than 300 cowboys and cowgirls compete for more than $60,000.
The rodeo will begin at 7:30 p.m. each day.
