SANTA ANA — Looking for a new way to have some fun this month?

Then check out “Your Game Show” at Santa Ana Star Casino.

Who among us hasn’t watched “The Price Is Right?” with Bob Barker or, for today’s TV viewers, Drew Carey?

The host for this new promotion at the Star Casino is Joe Biondi. Maybe you remember him from the old “Biondi and the Bean” on KOB-FM almost 20 years ago. He’s got a new shtick this month, playing the affable host, for “Your Game Show.”

There’s also an off-stage guy — sort of like the late Rod Roddy of “The Price is Right” — who announces the contestants’ names.

Once up front, contestants write their guesses for a product’s price on dry-erase boards; whoever comes the closest to the retail price without going over it wins the item and gets to join Biondi onstage to try their luck at a better prize — in a tougher game — similar to the old Monty Hall show, “Let’s Make a Deal.”

Last Tuesday afternoon’s final contestant, for example, got to pick three holes in a large punchboard — knowing that she could win a 2009 Nissan Versa if she got the right one. She didn’t drive away in a new car, but walked away with $50.

As contestants finished on stage, vying for nice prizes, another contestant was announced and headed to join the other three remaining contestants.

Two large screens are at either side of the stage and the entire event is televised, which obviously made one contestant more than a little nervous.

Everybody seemed to have a good time though, even those who didn’t hear their name called to play the game or accept a random prize, announced by the “Rod Roddy” offstage. An estimated 300 people were seated in the Event Center to watch and, hopefully, play along.

After some small talk with the quick-witted Biondi on-stage — “Where are you from?” “What do you do for a living?” (most are retired.) — it’s time to play for the better prizes.

One woman won a big, flat-screen TV; not bad for a day at the casino.

The best reply to a Biondi question came from a man who identified himself as a farmer from Peña Blanca. When Biondi asked him what he raised, the man replied, “I raise hell, mainly.”

About an hour after it began, the game show ended, and the three remaining contestants, none lucky enough to get on stage, each won $100.

“Your Game Show” will be held every Tuesday throughout November, with contests at 3 and 7 p.m. at the casino’s Bosque Event Center. A finale is set for Friday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. Prizes for the finale range from $5,000 to $22,000.

Michael Burdick, director of marketing for the Star Casino, said, “We’ve created a fun way for our guests to win prizes with the fanfare and excitement of a live game show and a celebrity host.”

Guests receive a free ticket to “Your Game Show” by earning 500 points from casino game play during the previous week. As they enter the Event Center, their ticket stubs are taken and placed into a drawing bin. At the start of each contest, the host draws four ticket stubs, corresponding to the four guests who are called up front to start the game.

The promotion wouldn’t be possible without the companies and organizations that provide prizes to “Your Game Show,” including Melloy Nissan, Paradise Village Electronics, Ashley Furniture Home Store, The Hyatt Regency Tamaya, Scooteroo, Go With Nancy, Nob Hill Bar and Grill, Three Deep Breaths A Healing Studio, The Melting Pot, The Blind Man, Casa Verde Salon and Spa, La Provence Restaurant, Jon Ric Salon and Day Spa and Santa Ana Star Center.
