Rio Rancho will also be overrun with motorcycles next month, when the 17th annual Rio Rancho Toy Run takes place.
Today’s second annual Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” motorcycle run will be held, with an expectation of substantially more than the 1,200 or so riders that participated in 2008.

Prior to the start of the ride, there will be a Marine Corps honor guard and ceremony to dedicate the run to the marines that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and to recognize the three fallen law enforcement officers that were lost this year.
Registration costs $20 per motorcycle or an unwrapped toy of equal value. Riders will depart at 11:30 a.m. and end at Sandia Resort and Casino, where there will be food and other vendors.
For more information, call Paul Caputo at 975-2033 or visit toys4totsnm.org.
Toys may be donated to the cause through Dec. 11, with distribution beginning Dec. 12, Caputo said.
“We have never said ‘no’ to a child who needs a toy for Christmas,” Caputo said. “It’s Christmas — nobody should be without Christmas.”
With the same goal, the Rio Rancho Toy Run will take place Nov. 22 at 11:30 a.m. at Rio Rancho High School.
Riders participating in this motorcycle rally must donate one new toy and two non-perishable food items, or make a $20 per person donation.
From the high school, the rally’s route will travel Northern Boulevard, Unser Boulevard, US 550, and NM 528, concluding at the Italian American Association, 1565 Stephanie Street.
At the Italian American Association there will be music, a bike rodeo, refreshments and a raffle.

This event is made possible by Rio Rancho Toy Run Inc., the Rio Rancho Convention and Visitors Bureau and the City of Rio Rancho.
