Local student dies of H1N1

The New Mexico Department of Health announced Thursday that a 5-year-old girl from Rio Rancho and an infant from Roosevelt County died as a result of H1N1 influenza, also known as “swine” flu. The Department of Health also states that the children didn’t have chronic medical conditions.

Judge denies new trial for former city manager

Former Rio Rancho city manager Jim Palenick won’t be getting any money from the city anytime soon. Sandoval County District Court Judge George Eichwald denied Palenick’s request for a new trial and reaffirmed his previous decision in July that the former city manager was not due 10 months in back pay from the city.
