Rants & Raves

“To all you citizens who have nothing better to do but complain about everything I have one word, ‘move.’ Why don’t you folks try living in California, Seattle, Tokyo, Seoul, Korea, or any other large city with a few million residents, hundreds of traffic lights, horrendous traffic jams, longer wait times for everything etc. ... you folks wouldn’t even last a second. You think you pay a lot on taxes, utilities, city services, gas, etc. ... why don’t you ask the folks out in California, Hawaii, Washington State and they will definitely laugh at you and say ‘put up or shut up.’”

“I can’t believe a Mexican National can have his child drive while he is drunk and only face probation for a year with a $1,000 fine, only if he isn’t a good boy. Give me a break! I guess only Americans with valid driver’s licenses have to follow the law. If I drink and drive and go before the judge he will give me jail time, lots of fines, interlock and I will lose my license, get community service and a whole lot more. So next time you would like to drink and drive, just get your son or daughter to drive.”

“As a parent of a senior at Rio Rancho High School, I am in shock to have just found out that my daughter and her boyfriend have been having open sex in the hallway during lunch. Apparently there are no cameras or monitors of any kind! As a concerned parent for the safety of my children, I guess I was more focused on weapons being taken to school, drugs being sold to my children and gangs trying to recruit unsuspecting prey. Never would I have ever thought that sex in the hallway could go unnoticed, especially by staff or students.”

“Why I wouldn’t shake the hand of the Rio Rancho High School principal: My daughter is a blended student and takes a class at Rio Rancho High School. One day she called me in tears to pick her up early. She had been dropped for minor infractions. I tried to talk to Principal Richard VonAncken that Friday but found out he was too busy to talk with me. I went Monday to talk with him. I was never given the courtesy of a phone call; He would not see me on Friday. I learned that my daughter was no longer allowed on Rio Rancho High School’s campus from a police officer. The only paperwork I got was a trespassing warrant. I pay taxes; I served in the armed forces for 23 years. Is this how the schools treat people?”

" Are you completly out of your mind?I believe it is your job entirely to raise your daughter with good morals and self respect. If she chooses to conduct herself in such a cheap and disgusting manner, it should fall on nobody but her.School staff is not there to stop kids from acting like dogs in heat. They are there to educate our children in a safe environment. Raise your own kid and stop expecting others to do it for you. That is what is wrong with society these days.I am sure you will be asking for welfare next. "

" To the *******, who doesn't like complainers, sounds like you're experienced in these other countries, what happened, did you get kicked out of them? sounds to me like you're the one with the problem. "

" The trouble with parents in this state, they are immature and child-like. Why can't they face up to the fact that they are to be responsible parents. I have two children, who never get into trouble. get straight A's in class, never skip school always do their homework and never talk back, its not that hard to do, GROW UP!! "

a mom wrote on Sep 27, 2009 7:04 PM:

" I agree with Barbara. What on earth is this "mother" so upset with RR Hs for? Not having cameras in the hallways? If my daughter or son were behaving like this (sex in the hallways) I'd be looking at myself and the way I've raised them. There are some serious problems at home and some very sorry parenting going on. the problem isn't cameras in the school, it's this refusal to take some responsibility for parenting a child to have zero respect themselves (male OR female) and parents who are in DENIAL like this. "

" This is in response to the two idiots that responded on Sept 27th regarding sex in the hallway at RRHS. NEVER ONCE was blame shifted on anyone. This was obvisously warning other parents should this happen to their child. The two that accused the "parent" of shifting blame probably are not even parents themselves! This parent is obviously upset and does not need you two adding feul to the fire. Thank goodness for concerned parents--we wouldn't be in the state that we are in if it weren't for the type of mind set like the two that commented!!!!!!!!Get a life!!! "

" Barbara Smith,
Thank you for your comment. You do not know me or my financial situation.Never would I expect the governmebnt to provide for my family or raise my children--I have seen the affects of a "handout." This was merely to educate other parents that may be concerned unlike yourself. You obviously are not a parent or you would have understood that I am concerned over the liberalzation in our schools. You cannot Pray in school but by all means, lets have animalistic sex in the hallway at lunch. It is evident that you sit at home and search for scandal and muck. "

Donna wrote on Sep 28, 2009 9:03 AM:

" How SAFE are our schools if they allow that type of behavior to take place in the hall?! Safety isn't only regarding a weapon. It is protecting our kids from dangers. Sex outside of its proper confines or in public is A DANGER! Are we raising a bunch of sex crazed idiots? What is school for anyway? Has it become a platform for orgies and misconduct? Kuddos to the parent that sounded the alarm to those of us THAT DO CARE ABOUT OUR KIDS! "

Gene Haskins wrote on Sep 28, 2009 9:05 AM:

" My comment to all parties: WHO WILL SUPPORT THE UNWANTED BABIES THAT ARE BEING PRODUCED THROUGH ALL OF THIS SELFISH IRRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR TAKING PLACE---in our school's hallways? "

" To the students at Rio Rancho High School who cannot keep their hands to themselves, this is physical assault and you could have a lawsuit filed against you, and will. "

TAXPAYER wrote on Sep 29, 2009 10:13 AM:

" Let me tell you about YOUR Rio Rancho High School, over populated, under staffed, ignorant principal and staff, abuse of office equipment, unprofessionalism is rampant throughout that school, yes there are good people there also but when you ( a parent) try to communicate with the "school" you are looked down upon. Classes have 40+ students, lack of books and they are more concerned about your "clothes" then your behaivor or education, you all have been duped. "

" Let all the negative people move out of Rio Rancho. I vote we start a fund to help them with their moving expenses.
Start packing !!!!! "

Palinite wrote on Oct 2, 2009 3:12 AM:

" Ray, thanks for offering to pay my moving expenses. What I need is for you to buy my home, an AMREP piece of garbage with no insulation, horrible plumbing, no idea how these homes passed inspection, or if they did.
Also refund the money I spent for Business License's, which then the city informed me there was a zoning issue. I need the money back for multiple pet licences, taxes that go to schools, (I have no kids), libraries, (I use Internet only) roads I never drive on, and of course, City Center, Kevin Jackson lawsuits. Thanks. "

Mr Wordsworth wrote on Oct 8, 2009 3:04 PM:

" It is hard to shield your kids from temptation at RRHS. And when they fall, you are likey not to get notofoed. If your kid is not involved in extra-caricular activities, consider private or homeschool. The non-EC kids seem to fall off of the school's radar. Example: Our kid started skipping classes and was caught. We were not notified until the 14th time. If we had been made aware of the problem after, say, the second or third time, maybe we could have had an easier time breaking the habit. "

rio rancho parent wrote on Oct 8, 2009 8:34 PM:

" Mr Wordsworth, what makes you think the kids who don't take EC activities fall off the radar???? Both my sons didn't take EC activities and came out with excellent grades and at good colleges, one in fact was in the top 2%. If a student is going to skip classes it has nothing to do with whether they actively mix or not, more to the point, kids who DO take EC activities are the ONES who are the trouble causers. Too much sport and not enough concentration on classes. "

parent of EC kids wrote on Oct 12, 2009 10:45 AM:

" Rio Rancho parent, you are way off the mark. If you read any studies, they will tell you that kids who take part in EC activities are far more likely to stay out of trouble. They are the kids who's grades are scrutinized and if they are not in class, it is noticed. Good for your kids, but that is not always the case with kids who have no EC activities. The EC activities help with getting in to college as well. "

rio rancho parent wrote on Oct 12, 2009 3:11 PM:

" Parent of EC kids, I think you'll find YOU are not strickly correct, colleges do accept kids who do-not take EC activities, and good colleges too. the GPA of 2.5 and no-more than 2 F's to allow kids to take sports and EC activities is a joke, this should be changed. If these are the grades students are getting, they shouldn't be entitled to take EC activities. "

Parent of EC kids wrote on Oct 16, 2009 12:37 PM:

" Rio Rancho Parent, I didn't say colleges didn't accept kids who didn't partake in EC activites. BUT, if you have 2 kids with a 3.5 gpa (my kid wouldn't be in sports with a 2.5, let alone a 3.0 even, my kid has straight A's because NM schools stink)and one of them manages to get this gpa while playing soccer, basketball and softball, and there is only room for one of them, guess which one the colleges pick? THE EC KID EVERYTIME because it shows they can prioritize and handle work. "

rio rancho parent wrote on Oct 19, 2009 7:38 AM:

" Parent of EC kids...I presume you are hypothesizing, when you state YOUR KID GETS STRAIGHT A'S AND PLAYS 3 SPORTS??? I'm not talking about base classes here, I'm talking AP classes. No descent college takes student in base classes, because they haven't challenged themselves. Maybe your kid is going to be the next top soccer, basketball or softball player, but I doubt that. "

Parent of EC kids wrote on Oct 20, 2009 7:35 AM:

" Hypothesizing??? No, I'm not. My child is smart and an athlete. NM schools suck if you haven't noticed. She is a straight A student in AP classes. Which does give her an incredible advantage. She wasn't a straight A student in Colorado, B's and A's, but this move to New Mexico made her seem like a genius and she doesn't have to study like she did in Colorado, so that should also tell you that the Education system in NM is horrible. But hey, lets cut more funds from a system that is failing. "
