Rants & Raves

“Come on, Rio Rancho school district You have to be kidding. Taking away booster club money the kids and parents raise is just not right. You wasted so much money building a new high school with way too many extras, that could have been used for substitute teachers. I, as a parent, will refuse to work any concession stand that will not support my daughter’s team 100 percent.”

“I saw on the news that Mayor Swisstack is asking for public input from residents about what they want or do not want in the city. I do not think it matters. From his past track record, he will only take suggestions that are things he wanted to do in the first place to make it look like he’s listening to what the residents want. Maybe Rio Rancho should be renamed Swisstackville. I am very disappointed with him and hope for a new Mayor in the next election.”

“I have three children in three different RRPS schools, one in middle school, one at the ‘old’ high school and the other at the district’s pride and joy Cleveland High. I would like to know why all three of my kids have between 30 and 45 students in each one of their classes. The district cries that there is no money to hire more teachers and (education assistants) so classroom numbers could be smaller. Somehow though, there was money for a VIP dinner for 300 people and a firework show at their grand opening of CHS. This will not help our children’s education! It’s way past time that we as parents, taxpayers and community members deserve answers. Someone needs to be held accountable for this mess that is our school system. Does anybody care?”

“All you dog walkers that travel along Lawrence Avenue in Enchanted Hills: pick up your dog’s mess. Every evening there are several walkers that travel this path and leave dog excrement along the way. Who do you think has to pick up your dog’s mess? Travel along this road and see this health hazard. It is disgusting and there is a school bus stop on this street. Have some respect for your fellow neighbor and clean it up.”

" Swisstackville? What a laugh. The city should be named Geriatric-ville or Strip Mall City. "

" "Swissville, The City of idots" ?
It's time to discover other cities in other states and bring back what have learned and apply it to the "City of Vision" And why do we need a hotel on Unser across from the hospital? Does Rio Rancho have something a tourist might miss? "

Dan in Real Life wrote on Sep 1, 2009 6:33 AM:

" I'll tell you what thy will learn from other cities. You need to incent large businesses to come to your town or they won't even look at you.

Other cities chambers of commerces are full of dime-a-day cheesy retail businesses that think they deserve the deals the big companies are getting to come to town.

Most other cities don't have the "blank slate" that RR has to lure in larger businesses.

However, RR is full of the loud mouths that work to stagnate growth because "balanced economy" is a term they can't seem to understand. "

" Gee Dan... Maybe a hotel would be nice for families of patients who are being hospitalized. The closest hotel now is on 528. I know when my dad was in the hospital after a near fatal heart attack, it was very comforting to be at the hotel right across the street. "

" The classes at RRHS are over the legal limit; there aren't enough chairs for all of the students. CHS has a plasma screen TV in every classroom. Where are our priorities? "

" I agree with the person that wrote about the new school. We had plenty of money to do what needed to be done but not for the education to go with it. They mightest well have new tv because the education isn't there and they have to occupy the kids some way. Go walk down the halls at the old high school and see how many classrooms are watching tv. That's because the teachers are talking on cell phones or else they aren't in the classroom. Does anyone know how many kids are discourage with the high school,Ask some ofthem. "

fedupofit wrote on Sep 6, 2009 9:32 AM:

" I thought cell phones were banned at the high school??? Teachers can't use them if students can't...what sort of example is that setting the students??? I think we need a shake up at both high schools and at the district office...have you tried communicating with district...they don't listen. "

" Hey I know, don't like what's going on in RR, then get out!!!!!!!!! "

fedupofit wrote on Sep 8, 2009 7:50 AM:

" "pocket", that,s the trouble, saying get out is the easy solution, that,s why this city is in the mess its in, because of people with your attitude. "

Parent wrote on Sep 8, 2009 11:43 PM:

" CHS hired a basketball coach that does not have a license as a teacher but teaches. We must not have had enough money left over for real teachers. The young man has very bad language when around the students. This is what my daughter has been talking about ever since school started. CHS get for real on hiring. "

Go Lobos wrote on Sep 13, 2009 8:11 PM:

" CHS does not have plasma televisions in every room - they are Smartboards. Do your homework before you talk about something in the local newspaper. "
