On July 2, at about 1:15 a.m., a Rio Rancho Police officer was on patrol in the area of Rainbow Blvd., north of King when he witnessed a single vehicle roll-over in the distance. As he approached the scene, he noticed a young male that had apparently been ejected from the 1998 Nissan Pathfinder. The victim was deceased at the scene. Police say it’s unknown if alcohol and/or speed were factors in the crash.
Long was a 2009 graduate of Rio Rancho High School. Police also learned two 18 year-old Rio Rancho men were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. As the initial police officer arrived, they had already scaled a nearby fence and ran from the area. Investigators were able to locate them and question one of them. The second individual will be questioned in a few days. Both men received non-life-threatening injuries and sought medical attention. The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
