Fay F. Davis, 82, of Rio Rancho, N.M., died on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Hanover Hospital, Hanover, Penn.

Born June 10, 1926, in Philadelphia, Penn., she was the daughter of the late Lewis G. and Cora Mae (Fetters) Findlay. Fay was preceded in death by her husband Grier.

Fay graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Albuquerque in 1979, earning her Bachelor of Arts. She retired from the University of New Mexico in 1984 where she worked as a program specialist for the University’s Native American Education Program.

Fay was a fabulous human being. She approached life with unparalleled humor, integrity and generosity. Fay was active in many civic organizations including the Rio Rancho city council, Friends of the Library, Library and Senior Advisory Boards, and she volunteered for the campaigns of Governor Bill Richardson, Senator Tom Udall, President Barack Obama and her son, the honorable Judge John Davis. As a philanthropist she supported Smile Train, Habitat for Humanity, Lambda Legal, Heifer International, American Cancer Society and the American Civil Liberties Union.

Celebrating her life are her children Karen and Rick Engle of Hanover, Penn., Donna Rupp, of Rio Rancho, N.M., Marilyn and Ken Switzer of Holton, Kan., Mike Davis, of Westminster, Col., and John and Vicki Davis of Placitas, N.M. She was a role model and hero to her 14 grandchildren and “GG” to her 6 great-grandchildren.

Her children and grandchildren will gather to honor her incredible life.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations in honor of Fay be made to Storehouse West, Inc., 1030 Veranda Rd. SE, #F, Rio Rancho, N.M. 87124, or to any of the charities listed above.
