“I find it very amusing that Kim Vesely responds in the rants to defend Bruce Carver. Sounds like the truth must have hit a nerve in our school district that has more athletic directors then we have principals.” (Editor’s note: In regards to the allegation that there are more athletic directors than principals, The Observer would like to see the math on that one. Every school [elementary, middle and high school] in the district has a principal, while the district only has one athletic director.)
“The football coach made a bad mistake but deserves a second chance to coach our football team. We all make mistakes and he has been a good person until this mistake. Knowing our district and our district athletic director, they will throw him under the bus. This will allow our A.D. to bring another coach from the south that he can control like the others he hired. Our programs are starting to look like Hobbs. Only good in one sport and forget the rest.”
“In response to the person ranting about Bruce Carver: Yes, he has hired strong coaches to work at Cleveland High School. What did you want him to do, hire weak coaches so Cleveland will not be any good? I coach in the Rio Rancho system and I cannot see Mr. Carver wanting only one high school to be successful. As the district athletic director, he has brought stability and solidarity to Rio Rancho athletics. He lives in Rio Rancho and is part of our community as well. The fact that this person is ranting about Cleveland turning into a powerhouse before they have played a single game speaks volumes about their resentment toward the opening of this much-needed high school.”
“This is in response to the Rio Rancho Public Schools letter from Kim Vesely defending Bruce Carver’s position as athletic director for the district. Let me say there’s no need to defend Carver, he is doing the job ‘he was hired to do.’ The problem is with the core of RRPS and the hiring practice within and that responsibility would lie with the Superintendent, Dr. Sue Cleveland. This is another example of how she’s allowed the district to become top heavy with unnecessary administrators. Because of that and poor financial planning, RRPS is now in jeopardy of teacher layoffs. RRPS will have two high schools with two on-site athletic coordinators. The question is why would you need to hire an additional district athletic executive to oversee this area when you already have an on-site athletic person like Tom Horton doing a perfectly good job.”
