Rants and Raves

“I’m not surprised that Harry Gordon and Todd Hathorne are against the upcoming general obligation bond. The roads in their neighborhood (Enchanted Hills) are fine. They don’t have craters and canyons on their streets, so why should they care about the rest of us who do? Hathorne misrepresented the facts of the upcoming bond election in his missive that was published a few weeks ago in the Rio Rancho Journal. The fact is this bond will not raise taxes. It’s a continuance of bonds that have been retired or paid down. According to Mayor Swisstack’s financial transition team, the city is bonded at less than 15 percent of its capacity. If you had 85 percent equity in your home and needed to do major renovations, wouldn’t you take advantage of that equity? Of course you would! Why can’t the city do the same? Learn the facts and be an educated voter.”

“ ‘West of nowhere, and not even close to somewhere?’ (Your Views, The Observer, Jan. 25) I’ve sat in L.A. freeway traffic for hours waiting to get to various events. Getting to the center is nothing and I live way out in Enchanted Hills. We join friends at the Santa Ana Star Center who travel all the way from Southern Boulevard and have a great time. ‘Score Peons?’ Not Nice! Stanley should give you a sting in the butt.”

" I would like to send my congrats to Rio Rancho School district for having 3 schools honored for English Language Learners Progress by the NMPED. They will receive $3000 each for educational materials and activities. The three schools are Ernest Stapleton Elementary,Puesta del Sol Elementary and Rio Rancho Mid-High. As a parent here I like to see the schools making a difference. "

" I would like to agree with Jessica's comment. Since the inception of Rio Rancho Mid-High the teaching staff and administration set up wonderful ELL program that supported kids. Good works continue. Way to go RRPS. "

" I would like the government to stop cutting our education funding! Our kids deserve thier education and desperately need it! The people who keep cutting it, do not need to fill thier own pockets anymore!!! Think of our kids and thier future!! Not your Pockets!! "

" I would like to RAVE about the Staff at the Mid-High for doing their job without being asked too. My child came home last night to say that there have been dress code checks going on. Twice in one day, and they were told they would continue. GOOD JOB, As a parent of a child who dresses in dress code I feel that this important for the school to stand by their policies. It's hard to explain to a child why he/she must follow policy while others do not. GREAT JOB!!!! "

" I would like to RANT at Rio Rancho High School. If they did sufficient checks like the previous raver said of the Mid-High, things would work. But as it is, I spot every other student out of dress code, I could hand out referels, left, right and center, and thats at parent pick-ip. In this life, rules have to be followed, many of these students think they are adults already,(not) they have to take the consequencies of an adult when they break the rules. "

" I have a rant about the Observer continuely failing to publish rants about our current Congress and new President. Any time someone talks about the tax cheats he wants in his cabinet or the luxory retreats Congress takes at our expense it amazingly does gets left out. I see now what the real change is, eliminating any opposing views. "

" Forget the roads let our propety values drop is that what Todd Hathorne stands for. I hope when he sells his home some day he don't plan on selling it for more than he paid for it. I would hate to see him add the the high cost of lving in Rio Rancho. "

" To Mark: My guess would be that The Observer is far too busy covering Rio Rancho to comment on national issues. If you want national issues, read the New York Times or even USA Today. The Observer doesn't have the access to Washington that larger news outlets do. That said, those newspapers miss every single story out of Rio Rancho.
It's called knowing your niche in the business and understanding your demographics. The Observer is a local paper. "
