Road funding

The Rio Rancho City Council approved a budget adjustment to provide the city’s 25 percent match of $50,000 to receive the New Mexico Department of Transportation fiscal year 2009 Municipal Arterial Program funds in the amount of $175,000 to improve the intersection at Iris and Idalia roads.

Blue Star Mothers

Once again, the Rio Rancho Blue Star Mothers are reaching out to Rio Rancho and surrounding communities for help. On Oct. 18, Blue Star families and volunteers will pack approximately 350 boxes of snacks, entertainment and hygiene items for shipment to troops deployed overseas and stateside.

In addition to contributions of miscellaneous items, the Blue Star Moms need financial contributions to cover the cost of postage at $9.95 per box.

“To ensure that no one serving our country is overlooked, we invite the community to submit the names and complete addresses of their loved ones in the military,” said Marla Griffith, chapter president. “This information will be held in strictest confidence,” Griffith continued, “and will be destroyed immediately after the mailing.” Send the required information to cnizio3@yahoo.com.

To request a list of items most appreciated by the troops, call 792-4552 or send an e-mail to lalag007@msn.com. Financial contributions can be mailed to Rio Rancho Blue Star Mothers, c/o Financial Secretary, P.O. Box 15594, Rio Rancho, NM 87174.

Haunted Trail at Bosque

This year you will have to proceed with caution as you travel down the haunted trail at the bosque. You never know what Halloween-themed surprise awaits you.

On Oct. 24 and 25, the trail will be open from 8 p.m. to midnight. Parking for this event will be located at the Sandoval County Judicial Complex located on the corner of Idalia Road and NM 528. Shuttle vans will take participants from the parking area to the bosque and then back to the complex parking lot.

Admission is $8 per person. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

This event is sponsored and coordinated by the city of Rio Rancho’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. For information, call 891-5015 or visit the city online at ci.rio-rancho.nm.us.
