New Mexico delegation helps defeat bailout plan

Two of New Mexico’s congressional representatives voted against the $700 billion bailout plan proposed by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson that he says will help stabilize the nation’s financial system.

Tom Udall, D-3rd District, and Steve Pearce, R-2nd District, voted against the plan.

The plan failed in the U.S. House of Representatives 228-205.

Heather Wilson, R-1st District, voted for the bailout plan.

Udall and Pearce are running against each other for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Pete Domenici.

The White House had urged approval of the legislation.

Udall and Wilson each represent portions of Rio Rancho.
