Rants and Raves!!!

“I was wondering what it takes to get in touch with someone at the Rio Rancho Public Schools’ transportation office. I have left several messages and still no response. Does anyone work there?”

“Seems I erred in my recent rant. A conversation with a former pest-control employee assures me there is no danger to wildlife at release. In his words, ‘pest-control companies’ humanely trap and promise to release at a ‘nice place’ in the country, in a pig’s eye! Skunk and raccoon pelts sell far too profitably for that. Perhaps some companies are the exception, but from my view, a call to pest control sounds like a death sentence to wildlife who can usually be kept away if humans will just use their brains.”

“This is a past due rant. In River’s Edge III a Realtor allowed a family to rent until a loan goes through. The people renting said they only had two dogs. According to the latest count, they have 10 dogs plus four puppies. Animal control came and informed them that they have 30 days to reduce the animal population. The renters have so far refused to follow the law on animal (pets) limitation. The Realtor involved has stated if the neighbors complain enough and the people are unable to finalize, or even get, a mortgage, he will sue for loss of income. This problem will not go away: The renters say they intend to continue with 10 dogs because they breed puppies, and will build a unit to house their dogs and puppies. Anyone have a solution to such an egregious problem?”

“Why hasn’t the large hole in the block fence on Interstate 25, directly across from Jiffy Lube, been repaired? Is it due to benign neglect or has the responsible party left town?”

“At Wednesday’s city council meeting, I was stunned to see the councilor from District 5 (Larry Naranjo) shill for a garbage receptacle cleaning process. I wasn’t aware that he had taken courses from the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). I can’t recall seeing any of my neighbors rinsing them. In living here over 20 years, I’ve only done it one time and I can’t remember what for. Their survey meant nada, as we don’t know what people were told, or the cost, too small a survey; and, the fact that the receptacles were owned privately by Waste Management, as pointed out by our former city attorney (James Babin). Also, as an ex-employee of Albuquerque, I’m aware that this company was let go from Bernalillo County. The council voted it down 3 to 2. (Guess what councilor was the No. 2 vote?) The District 5 councilor also brought in a street-paving contractor a few years ago, and they received a no-bid contract for $2 million. Surprise — they came from Española, same as the District 5 councilor. I wonder where the principals of this receptacle cleaning company hail from? A county commissioner, Jack Thomas, contributed money to Cabezon for lighting, which was for a good cause. I would have liked to have Mr. Thomas as my county commissioner. Ours is one who never returns phone calls, and not only from myself, but others from the River’s Edge community. River’s Edge is not being well served, but thankfully we have term limits for county commissioners.”

" I also have tried calling RRPS trasportation office several times. They have not returned my calls either. My children get out of school at 4:00. We live 2 miles from the school, and for the first week of school they did not get home until after 5:00. I understand they had bus problems the first day of school, but what happened the rest of the days? This problem needs to be fixed. "

" To the person who submitted the R&R regarding the RRPS Transportation Department: A small but very dedicated group of professionals staff the Transportation Department. Please take the time to refer to page 6 of the August 21, 2008 edition of The Observer, which will shed some light on the circumstances which led to a very frustrating situation for many. I will request that the Editor re-publish this piece next Sunday in case anyone missed it this past Thursday. Thank you. Jeff Bronstein, executive director, RRPS Department of Student Transportation "
