Baby Kate was born premature but healthy. However, after a few months, Kate’s parents realized she was not responding or developing the same as their previous children. Testing showed her brain had not developed normally and, unfortunately, no medical or surgical treatments could correct the problem. A dismal future was painted for the parents.

However, luckily for Kate, her pediatrician promptly referred her to RCI, Inc. Intensive daily therapy was started, including physical, occupational and speech services, both in the family home and at RCI’s special pre-school class.

Over the past year, Kate has made major strides. She can walk with the help of her tiny walker and sit up on her own. She is learning to feed herself and no longer chokes when she eats. Most rewarding, she is learning to talk and make her needs known to those around her.

She loves to give hugs and cuddle. These are feats Kate’s family was told would not be realistic for this baby born with an unusually small brain. Kate’s parents credit RCI’s early intervention and therapy program with their daughter’s success.

Thanks to RCI, Inc. Kate’s life has a brighter future.

RCI, Inc., a 501[c] 3 agency, is celebrating 50 years of serving children and adults with physical, developmental and behavioral challenges.

Kate is just one recent success story.

Created in 1958 as the first place in New Mexico to treat children with polio and cerebral palsy, RCI, Inc. was known as the Rehabilitation Center, Inc. We invite you to help celebrate this milestone by being a valued Sponsor of our Caring Hands Gala on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Hilton Albuquerque Hotel.

An article, and/or information in the Rio Rancho Observer, will help us continue to fulfill our mission to improve the abilities, interests and choices of children and adults with physical, developmental or behavioral challenges toward achieving their highest levels of self-sufficiency, while reaching out to individuals in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties through Early Intervention, Employment Services, Day Habilitation and Therapy Services.

The Caring Hands Gala will be an evening to remember with an hors d’oeuvre reception during the exciting silent auction.

When the doors open to the elegantly decorated New Mexico Ballroom, a delicious dinner will await our guests. Following dinner will be our exhilarating live auction and superb entertainment.

Our Rio Ranch location is at 103 Rio Rancho Blvd. NE #A8.
