Rants and Raves

“This is in response to the rant about the bad neighbor.  It truly seems that there is an epidemic of bad neighbor conduct going around.  Things that once used to make the news as headlines, now, unfortunately, are often considered normal.  I am not sure what is wrong with these terrorist neighbors from hell, but something is.  My own personal beef is with the neighbors with the nonstop barking dogs, or who let their dogs out to bark at their neighbors when they see them coming or going, or visitors doing same.  These people do not own the street or have the right to control other people like this, as they seem to think.”

“Back when our country was in the industrial revolution, the people made a conscious effort to scrape the already extensive operating public transportation systems for inexpensive personal vehicles based on the need for oil products. Obviously that was a mistake! The recent surge in oil prices is a wakeup call. Already the airline industry is making moves that will prevent the masses from affording the price of a ticket to fly. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to think that in the not too distant future, whether we’re ready or not, if dramatic improvements aren’t made in our public transportation system many will find themselves unable to get to market or anywhere else.

The Rail Runner is a baby step in the right direction but it’s going to take a lot more investment in public transportation to effectively service the masses. The windfall revenue that this state receives from oil, get quickly earmarked by our leaders trying to spend it where our state’s tax revenues fall short. We’re not a heavily populated state so having the revenue for free healthcare, although important, could end up becoming another large tax increase when the windfall can’t pay for it? If done correctly, public transportation can pay for itself. I think a better way of paying for the current and future improvements in our public transportation investments is to use oil windfall profits, rather than looking for sales tax increases that most already can’t afford.”

“People move here from the east, but the first time some wild creature trespasses on “their” property, even though the property is located along a major wildlife corridor, pest control is summoned and its war.

National Wildlife Federation studies show that no matter how humanely animals are trapped, most at relocation, will starve, be killed by competitors, will die trying to return and often leave behind young to starve. Come on people, wildlife-proof your property and leave wildlife where it was for several thousand years before you blessed us with your presence!”

" True, Does it take a court case to get through to dog owners that they can't just 'abandon' their dogs in the yard. No the dogs won't be taken away, its not the dogs fault, but in my opinion, the owners should be fined a lot higher than they are. They are at work when this is all happening, so they have no comment when not around to hear it. "

" I am in agreement with the person complaining about barking dogs. I have 2 dogs and do not ALLOW them to bark non stop. Do these people not hear their dogs disturbing other people? This is a civilized community and animal control is no help when there is a problem Dogs are chained to trees 24 hours a day and no one cares. Why do people have dogs if they are not part of the family? "
