Rants and Raves

“It happens often. A parent is upset because their kid did not make all-stars and they blame everyone but themselves and their child.  Sunset Little League is a fantastic league, very family friendly and player oriented.  It is so unfair to put down a whole league just because your son (or daughter) got left off an all-star team.  Sunset actually added two more all-star teams this year so that more players could participate. Board members, managers, coaches, team moms and many other volunteers put in hundreds of hours of their own time to help kids have fun and learn how to play this great game of baseball. To all of you in the community that read last week’s rant about Sunset Little League, please know that it is a safe, fun, well run, well coached, top-notch league, and we are proud to have our kids play here.”

“To all those defenders of the North Hills Property Owners Association, there’s a reason why people don’t pay their dues, dummies. Did you ever not pay for something when you felt you weren’t getting your money’s worth? People pay for good service, they don’t pay for the crap you are defending.”

“On July 3, about 10 a.m., there was a wreck between the two Bernalillo exits (on I-25). Of course, the wonderful Sandoval County police were sitting in their cars, parked in the middle of the road, doing nothing, still letting traffic go southbound and not helping traffic. They’re just so lovely – they don’t care about Rio Rancho, they just had to sit there and let everybody get on the freeway and it was a nightmare.”

“The world is all about this pseudo-man giving birth to a girl child. That is not a man. People, wake up. Don’t buy into that. That female gave birth – men can’t give birth. She has female reproductive organs and she still squats down to pee. That is a female, not a male, and how she dresses herself, she is a female. It’s making me sick. It’s giving the gay-lesbian-bisexual-transgender community a bad look, a bad name, making people think all of us are freaks.”

“This is regarding the Fourth of July and people who have no respect for their neighbors and their animals. I mean, they started shooting them off and they had illegal ones, but those people never get caught. There’s a lot of smoke. I have trouble breathing and you have all that smoke from the fireworks. I think that is very unrespectful. If they want to shoot fireworks, go somewhere else. I wish they would ban the things anyway.”

“I’m calling about the Fourth of July celebration this year. Everybody was in the mood for the Fourth of July – there was a lot and lot of fireworks. I couldn’t believe how many fireworks, firecrackers that went off. I guess everyone was excited to participate in Independence Day and show off their celebration. That ends as soon as you light the fuse – because if you drive up and down the streets of Rio Rancho you see all the trash sitting in front of everybody’s driveway in the street. If you want to be patriotic, at least pick up your trash and keep the United States looking good, looking clean, looking lean.”

“I read with interest the rants regarding the North Hills Property Association. I wish everyday that I would have purchased a home with such an association instead of in Star heights, which has become like the ghettos of New Jersey. Drive down Arlene and Brenda roads and you’ll see yards ridden with weeds, old appliances, cars that don’t run, etc. I can’t sell my home without a great loss. If the North Hills Property Owners Association isn’t doing a good job, I can understand the owners’ complaints. Otherwise, pay your association dues and count your blessings.”

“This rant is in regard to 13- and 14-year-old kids that double our realty hired to paint the Fairway condos. They are most definitely not 13 years old. They appear to be from south of the border, although I can’t swear to that, not seeing their Ids, but they appear to be and don’t speak English. And they slosh paint everywhere and the mom that drops them off hit my car and left a huge door ding. 13- and 14-year-old kids allowed in our country painting the Fairway condos? Of course, immigration is nowhere to be seen.”

“I want a company like Waste Management, where you don’t have to pick up anything, you don’t have to do any work, you don’t have to haul anything – and you can still bill and collect from the person. This is really good, even if the homeowner is not in the city, county or United States, they still have to pay tribute to WM. How did this come about? Well, there was a bunch of really stupid city councilors that allowed them to get by with that contract.”

“Mr. McCain wants to start 45 more new nuclear-power plants. Where does he think he’s going to put them? The smart people of this country remember too well what our government did to us: The Three-Mile Island nuclear disaster. I’ll never forget mothers calling, asking why their children’s hair was falling out and that their children were sick. This government ignored them and would not tell them what happened. We do not have an honest government; we have a government of liars. Mr. McCain is thinking in the past again, but I’m not surprised. He’s old, old, old.”

“I just have one rant and I’m sorry to say it’s to you. The way the newspaper is folded, it discourages me from reading it, because it’s all curled up. So that is my rant – I don’t know if there’s anything that can be done about it or if there’s other people who feel like I do, but I wish there was some other way you could present the paper instead of rolled up.”

“I have read a few silly comments about the Big Time 4x4 located on Southern Boulevard. I don’t understand all the complaints. This is a reputable business; they deal in repairing off-road vehicles. The vehicles in the back of the business are either parts vehicles or vehicles that are in the process of being fixed. I don’t see any oil or antifreeze leaking anywhere. When the shop doors are open it looks as clean as any repair shop I have ever seen. As for the trucks out front, the owner of the business has the right to help friends sell their stuff; they are not taking up any space but his own parking area. I have seen a lot of businesses with cars for sale in their lots, where are the complaints about that? What is the problem with the rude commenters? These people seem like hard-working decent people who are just trying to make an honest living. You complainers need to just leave them alone. There is nothing that I can see and obviously the code enforcers can see that is wrong.”

“I returned from a short trip to the Bernalillo Wal-Mart about 3 p.m. (recently). As we were walking to our car, we heard the frantic barking and panting of some small dog. With a little looking around, we found this dog inside a black Explorer inside a small kennel. OK, so it is 90-plus degrees and this dog cannot get close to the slightly cracked windows. Before we did break out the window, which I understand we can legally do under the circumstances, another customer walked up and told us that she had reported it to security and maybe they would do something. Before security arrived a young couple sauntered out of the store. The other customer gave them a piece of her mind about the conditions they left this dog in and they just got in the car and drove away. Oh, did I mention that they were parked in a handicapped space (no, they did not have a sticker)? When God gave us dominion over all the inhabitants of the earth, I guess we thought He meant abuse, torture, and neglect and kill them.”

”This is a rave for the city’s 4th of July celebrations: It was so well orchestrated. We went to see the parade in the morning and we had so much fun and it was really organized all the way from the police blocking off the streets and telling us how to get to parking (insert rave for RRPD) to the veterans introducing everyone in the parade, just excellent. Later we went to the Loma Colorado celebrations and were again impressed with the city. Our kids had an incredible time on the jumpers and we had a good time relaxing and listening to music. And let’s not forget the firework display. How do you best describe the fireworks? Imagine a finale that lasts 20 minutes, that is what it was like and it was amazing. Big thank you to the city for putting such a well orchestrated celebration together.”

“I really enjoyed the 4 July fireworks, but what really troubled me was a neighbor, who was letting his child, no more than 7 years old, light the fireworks and stand over them while they went off -- even letting him go near them before he could guarantee they had gone out. Even his younger sister was joining in. Where does this parent’s responsibility lay? It makes me sick to the stomach. I class this as child cruelty and there should be a penalty for this parent.”

“Why are so many people disillusioned into thinking that if we drill for more oil in the United States, the price of fuel will go down at the pump? A couple of weeks ago, the Saudis increased production and the prices continued to rise.

There’s a popular commercial on television right now that indicates the U.S. currently produces two-thirds of our country’s demand for oil and gas. If we produce two-thirds of our country’s needs for these commodities and the other one third comes from the oil cartel, wouldn’t that formula in itself assure of our being somewhat sheltered from the increasing price of a barrel of oil that the world is currently experiencing? Even as we reduce our use of these commodities, the price is still rising. The amount of our production won’t affect the price at the pump because our American oil is priced fixed by the commodities market just like the rest of the world’s oil. If we produce more oil here in America it would sell at the same high price and would continue to rise with the world market demand. The only real way we citizens could benefit from these high oil prices is if we are part of the source of oil. Guess what? We are.

As an oil-producing state, we could propose what the governor of Alaska did. She proposed to spend some $1.2 billion of surplus funds earned from selling oil at higher prices to reduce Alaska residents’ electric and fuel cost for one year. … Why isn’t our New Mexico governor and state Legislature making some of the same kinds of proposals with this state’s oil windfall, rather than watch the citizens do without necessities while fuel costs continue to rise? We citizens shouldn’t stick our heads in the sand and expect politicians and the oil industry to come up with long-term answers for this problem alone.”

" I've been reading some of these rants and I can't beleave what a nation of cry babys we've all become. Complain all you want about the price of gas. It's not going to do any good. Complain about how they roll your newspaper.(don't read it) Complain about fireworks being set off in your neighborhood.(move to the country)Just STOP complaining and focus on being posotive for a change people. Life's too short to be so negative all the time, and bebor you point any fingers, look at yourself. Let him without sin cast the first stone! "
