Infant exercise program
YMCA offers a new program for babies six months and older with Mom, Dad or a grandparent. This active, indoor, outdoor class with strollers will be held at the new Corrales Recreation Center walking track and in their gym at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays. Registration is ongoing. Juvenile Circle Groups
CYFD’s Children Youth and Family Juvenile Probation staff will be hosting circle groups for parents of runaways. Circle groups are not group counseling, therapy, or gripe sessions. They are intended to be an opportunity for parents of runaways to come together in a safe and supportive process, exploring ideas and sharing insights into the frustrations and issues facing them. Martha Todd, juvenile probation officer and Mary Gueldenzoph, children’s court attorney will lead the group the first Thursday of every month from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. through Dec. 4 at the John Brown Justice Center in conference room C, 5100 Second Street NW in Albuquerque. Rio Rancho Fourth of July
The City of Rio Rancho will once again have one of the state’s biggest and best fireworks shows on our country’s Independence Day, Friday, July 4.
Loma Colorado Park located at 555 Loma Colorado Drive will be the optimal location to watch this highly entertaining display that will fill the city’s skyline. Parking will be available at the adjacent Rio Rancho High School for a fee of $5 per car or van load with proceeds benefiting the high school Booster Club. Handicapped parking will be located at the parking lot next to the park. The park will open to the public at 3:30 p.m. and the live musical entertainment will kick off at 4 p.m. with The Stingrays. Red Letter F will perform from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and The Hit Squad will conclude the night’s entertainment when they are on stage from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The fireworks show will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Not only will visitors have live music to enjoy before the fireworks, but there will also be activities for children and food available for purchase. O’Hare’s Grill and Pub will have hot dogs, barbecue sandwiches, cotton candy, Hawaiian ice and much more available.
This event is sponsored by the city’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and is free to the public. The fireworks show and its start time are subject to weather. This is an alcohol-free event.

Rio Rancho ‘Music in the Park’
Rio Rancho’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services proudly announces the start of its “Music in the Park” series. Each Sunday night from June 29 to August 17 Haynes Park will be the site for free musical entertainment from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Citizens are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic to listen to a variety of acts playing at the parks’ Rotary Club Barbeque Pavilion. Rio Rancho Sunday is Funday
Sunday is Funday 2008 will be Aug. 17 from noon to 4:30 p.m. at Loma Colorado Park located at 555 Loma Colorado Drive (adjacent to Rio Rancho High School and the new Aquatic Center).
Registration begins now for teams to enter the Mayor’s Play Day Pentathlon Challenge.
Your team will compete against other teams from local business or community organization to win the Mayor’s Trophy.
The Play Day Pentathlon will be a five-event relay of athletic-fun events that will be held at the third annual Sunday is Funday picnic. Sunday is Funday is an event for kids and families with inexpensive food, fun and entertainment.
More than 3,000 attendees have enjoyed musical entertainment, dance teams, team mascots, jumps and activities for kids, vendor booths and displays in past years.
At this family-style picnic, attendees will find 50 cent hot dogs and hamburgers, 50 cent water and soda. There will also be brats, $2; corn of the cob, $1, snow cones, ice cream, and many other items.
Attendance is free. Parking will be available at the Park and Rio Rancho High School for a $2 fee.
Your sponsorship of your own team or the team of a non-profit organization team will help fund the Sunday is Funday event.
The fee for participating in the Mayor’s Play Day Pentathlon is $200 and up. This includes sponsorships for the event and booth or banner space.
Sponsors will be recognized at the event and in the newspaper. Some sponsors will also have the opportunity to display their own banners.
