Golden Wedding Anniversary

Gary and Cathy Hohmann are celebrating their Golden wedding anniversary.

Gary Hohmann and the former Cathy Moyer first met on the paddlewheel steamboat Avalon on the Mississippi River in 1954. They were married in Holy Family Catholic Church at New Melleray near Dubuque, Iowa on June 14, 1958.

Gary received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loras College in Dubuque and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He worked in the aerospace industry for a few years, and then transferred to Westinghouse Electric Company where he spent 35 years working primarily on various nuclear projects.

Cathy was fully employed as a homemaker and raising the couple’s seven children. During these years, the couple moved frequently. They lived in Rockford, Ill., Pittsburgh, Pa. (three times), Los Alamos, N.M., Baltimore, Md., Albuquerque, N.M., Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Aiken, S.C.

After retiring from Westinghouse, Gary became president and CEO of the Southeastern Technology Center in Augusta, Ga. Following a second retirement in 1998, Gary and Cathy relocated to Rio Rancho, N.M., where Cathy has continues many art projects and Gary is involved in multiple civic and charitable volunteer activities. In addition, they have taken several cruises to different countries and spent most summers traveling in their camper to visit children and relatives.

Their children and spouses are Timothy and Michelle Hohmann of Cypress, Calif., Christine and Robert Moore of Avondale, Pa., Melissa and Gary Endlich of Ford City, Pa., James and JoAn Hohmann and Todd Hahmann of Rio Rancho, N.M., Nancy and Nils Schindler of Lakewood, Colo., and Ellen and Joseph Stevens of Bonaire, Ga. They have seven grandchildren and one step-granddaughter.

Gary and Cathy will host a party at their home in Rio Rancho for their southwestern friends followed by a celebration in Dubuque, Iowa for family and friends hosted by their children.

They will renew their marriage vows in the church where they married.

In the fall, they will take another riverboat cruise on the Mississippi.
