The Rio Rancho Fire Department and Sandoval County Fire Department are hosting an Emergency Medical Services health and safety fair in the Rio Rancho Home Depot parking lot on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event marks the start of the national EMS week, recognizing the dedication of emergency medical services across the nation and their importance as first responders.

With a theme of “Extraordinary People, Extraordinary Service,” EMS week activities help celebrate the day-to-day operations and hard work of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators and administrators. The public is invited to attend this event where there will be displays of fire engines, ambulances, rescue vehicles and a medical helicopter. There also will be health organizations on hand to distribute education material on heart disease, diabetes, respiratory diseases and others. Free blood pressure, blood sugar and electro cardiograms will be available from the participating agencies.

Rio Rancho Fire Department will have their Fire Safety Trailer on hand to teach children about fire prevention and escaping the home in the event of a fire. Several law enforcement agencies will also be present.

There will be several career and volunteer fire departments and ambulance services represented at the event. Jemez Pueblo Ambulance will be handing out free bicycle helmets to children, while supplies last.
