Anybody who’s seen a softball game played with gusts reported at 41 miles an hour knows that was the right thing to do, move the game. The teams will meet Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Eagle Ridge softball complex, which is where the teams’ first meeting of the season, on April 10, had also been blown away and re-scheduled.
The Cougars (25-0, 8-0 in 1-5A) have won the first two games between the long-time rivals, 1-0 at Eagle Ridge on April 18, eight days after the original meeting was changed, and then 3-2 at Cibola on April 22.

Coach Paul Kohman said he is trying to find another team for his team to play. Even counting the blown-out game, the Rams will have played 25 games and they’re allowed to play 26 before the state tournament.
“(Other teams I’ve contacted) are worried about losing and their seeding. Frankly, I could care less,” Kohman said.
Bunts: Shelley Ripple has a season-record 11 home runs this season, which gave her the career mark, after she hit four as a freshman, of 15 homers.
… The Rams moved up to No. 5, from seventh place last week, in the coaches association poll. The 11 coaches each voted Cibola No. 1. The Cougars and Rams are separated by Carlsbad, La Cueva and Oñate. West Mesa is No. 6, followed by Mayfield, Los Lunas and Las Cruces.
… The Rams’ first-round game at state is at 10 a.m. on May 15 at Ricketts Park in Farmington.
