Airships: The Big,
Bad and Bold
Blimps, zeppelins—no matter what we call them, airships have played a fascinating role in world history, art, popular culture, science, sport and recreation. From the Hindenburg to Goodyear, from Graf Zeppelin to Led Zeppelin—images of airships challenge our imagination. In this exhibit we revisit the wonder of these “monsters of the sky” through award-winning models, art and historical objects. Open since August 2007, this special exhibit has been extended through June 21. Free with admission at the Balloon Museum in west Albuquerque.

Native Americans have an intimate relationship to nature and the sky. Learn about their cultural, scientific, artistic, and historic connections to balloons and ballooning in this new exhibition, timed to open in conjunction with the 25th Annual Gathering of Nations Powwow. Re-Wearable clothing collection at Esther Bone Memorial Library
Keep Rio Rancho Beautiful promotes the re-use of wearable clothing by holding a clothing collection with drop-off locations at the Esther Bone Memorial Library and City Hall. This program will collect your hand me-downs to benefit New Mexicans in need. Re-wearable clothing and re-useable linens only please. No rags, clothing, or shoes in great despair. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community
Services will begin hiring summer counselors shortly. Positions will fill staffing needs for Kamp Rio, Fine Arts Fun Camp, Sports plus Day Camp, and Higher Ground Camp. Interested applicants must have availability form late May through early August and all positions are 40-hours per week. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Experience in formal sports coaching, cooperative game instruction, team building, arts and crafts, outdoor adventure, and experience working with children is preferred, but not required. Applications can be submitted online at www.ci.rio-rancho.nm.us or atthe offices of the Human Resources Department located on the 4th floorof City Hall (3200 Civic Center Circle NE). The RRPS Native American Parent Advisory Council, in collaboration with the Rio Grande Educational Collaborative, invites you to a free two-week summer academy for American Indian children and teens from July 28 to Aug. 8 at Rio Rancho High School. The folk music trio, The Ancient Bones, will perform at the Esther Bone Memorial Library on at 6:30 p.m. on May 20. The library is located at 950 Pinetree Rd. SE in Rio Rancho. The concert will be held in the library’s program room. There will be no admission charge for this event, however free tickets are required and available at the library’s adult information desk. You may call 891-5012, ext. 3128, for more information. The Ancient Bones include Chuck Mensching, Heather Simpson and Kelly Campbell. They have been performing together for almost five years. They perform acoustic folk music and offer beautiful harmonies backed by acoustic guitar. This will be the third concert at the newly renovated Esther Bone Memorial Library. The library holds a free monthly concert series as well as a wide variety of programming for adults. Cowboy poetry by Mike Moutoux
Mike Moutoux, “New Mexico’s most enchanting cowboy”, will be performing a mix of cowboy poetry and music at the Esther Bone Memorial Library. This event will be held on May 29 at 6:30 pm.

This program is free; however tickets are required and available at the adult information desk in the library. Cowboy poetry is extremely popular and library staff advises getting tickets early because seating is limited.
