Development is on the move in Rio Rancho

The Rio Rancho city council unanimously approved eight planning and zoning requests, while denying one request during its meeting on Wednesday.

The council’s decisions mirrored the planning and zoning department and planning and zoning’s board’s recommendations.

The lone denial was Tom Gordon’s request to rent U-Haul trucks.

He wanted to rezone his property at 2516 Southern Blvd. from retail commercial to special use for retail commercial and truck rental operation.

The planning and zoning approvals includes:

Esther Helweg’s request to rezone .51 acres north of 11th Avenue and west of Golf Course Road from special use to commercial mixed use.

Sol West Land and Development Ltd.’s request to rezone property described as Rolling Hills, Block 5, Tract BB from single family residential to special use for office uses.

Louis Venner’s request to rezone .3 acres on 10th Avenue east of Unser Boulevard from single family residential to mixed use commercial.

Max Sklower’s request to rezone two acres on 11th Avenue east of Unser Boulevard from single family residential to retail commercial.

Mark Jones’ request to rezone 1.07 acres south of Fruta Road and west of Broadmoor Drive from agricultural residential and single family residential to retail commercial.

Grace Inc’s request to rezone 1.6 acres from single family residential to special use Church, Special Use District for a Church and related facilities.

The land is at Vatapa and Tampico, west of NM 528 and Idalia. A United Methodist Church will be constructed.

Emil Hargett’s request to rezone .69 acres on 10th Avenue, east of Unser Boulevard from single family residential to mixed-use commercial district.

High Knoll Development’s request to rezone an acre on 12th Avenue east of Unser Boulevard from single family residential to retail commercial.
