RRHS computer programmers win several state categories

Rio Rancho High School’s Business & Entrepreneurial Academy computer science students maintained their dominance at the 2008 New Mexico State Business Professionals of America, where more than 500 students and 30 New Mexico schools participated in the three-day annual state competition.

The following are the results in the Information Technology Category:

In Computer Programming Language/C++, Ryan Stuart was first, Thomas Otero placed second and Tim Casey was third.

In Computer Programming Language/JAVA, Jeff Napier was first and Marc Mendoza was third.

The Computer Science Programming curriculum was established in 2001. Since then the following RRHS students have been state and/or national champions: Josh Barron, Chris Morrison, Josh Rivera, Justin Kenworthy, Michael Hogan, Jason Wolfe, Bryan Hughes, Torin Adamson, James Archuleta, Brandon Winkler, Jason Salaz, Aaron Gresham, James Pevey, Sean Morris, Ryan Grainger, Michael Belvin, Brenden Trebitowski, Johnathon Ammons, Trey Klundt, Brenden Laughlin, Jeff Napier, Marc Mendoza, Ioan Belovarski, Ryan Stuart, Thomas Otero and Tim Casey.

RRHS offers seven Computer Science Programming classes that are articulated with CNM for a college credit as well as a tech credit. The classes are: Visual Basic & Advanced Visual Basic, C++ & Advanced C++ (both will be C# & Advanced C# next year), Java, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science A/B.
