Rio Rancho police arrested a state police officer Wednesday after he was accused of verbally assaulting his estranged wife and breaking a window on her vehicle.

Wesley Lacuesta, 43, of Rio Rancho is charged with assault against a household member and criminal damage to property.

Lacuesta is stationed in Taos and his estranged wife lives in Rio Rancho.

Rio Rancho police spokesman John Francis said the victim came to the police station immediately after the incident happened and reported it.

The police put out a BOLO (be on the lookout for) on Lacuesta’s pickup truck and spotted it heading south on NM 528, near the Village Inn restaurant.

He was arrested and taken to the Sandoval County Detention Center, where he later bonded out.

Lacuesta was already on administrative leave without pay, according to the state’s Department of Public Safety Communications Director Peter Olson. He was disciplined earlier this month.

Olson said the DPS is aware of Lacuesta’s recent arrest and is looking into it.
