The Jr. Scorpions came back Saturday afternoon to shut out the Taos Coyotes 6-0. Orlando had a hat trick, Gretz scored twice and Lepori scored a goal. The Jr. Scorps became a cohesive unit in this game, with the defense skating hard to protect their territory.
It took everything the offense and defense had in Game 4 against El Paso. This fast-paced game went right down to the wire and ended in a 4-4 tie. Scoring for the Jr. Scorps were Orlando, with two goals; Gretz and Trujillo had one apiece.
The outcome left the Jr. Scorps tied, points-wise, with the Rhinos with five each, setting up the championship game Sunday morning.
The Jr. Scorpions came into the championship game pumped up and ready to win. They looked like the pros — only shorter.
Helping their goalie by holding back the Rhinos to only six shots on goal were Ben Bock, Tristan Colyer, Tylec Kohlrust, and Benjamin Miller. Only one goal slipped past goalie Seamus Wade in the battle for the trophy.
Trujillo tallied two goals into the Rhinos’ net and Orlando notched his second hat trick of the tourney. Wade finished the tour-nament with 46 saves out of 53 shots by their opponents, helping the Jr. Scorps achieve one shutout and three one-goal games, including Sunday’s championship.
