PBR ready to 'Ty' one on at Tingley Coliseum

The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) will return to Tingley Coliseum Friday through Sunday for the annual Ty Murray Invitational.

It's the 14th stop on the elite Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) and it gets underway Friday at 8 p.m., again on Saturday at 6 p.m., and then Sunday at 2 p.m.

This three-day event features the best bulls in the industry battling the top 45 bull riders in the world. Among those competing are three-time PBR World Champion Adriano Moraes (Sao Paulo, Brazil), 2005 World Champion and current BFTS World Standings leader Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.), and 2006 PBR Daisy Rookie of the Year and current number two in the BFTS standings J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, NC).

Returning to competition in Albuquerque is two-time PBR World Champion Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.). Shivers had been sidelined since November when he suffered a broken ankle, a broken fibula and a broken tibia when Taylor Made Bucking Bull's Chili stepped on his left leg at the PBR's Cheeseburger Island Style Hawaii All Star Challenge presented by Amp'd Mobile. Shivers underwent surgery and has been recovering at his home in Louisiana; he climbed back aboard a bull at this weekend's stop in Omaha.

The weekend's events consist of two rounds of competition in which all 45 bull riders will be randomly paired with one of the rankest bulls in the industry. The third round, or the Built Ford Tough Championship round, will pair the top 15 riders from the first two rounds randomly with one of the rankest bulls in the industry. At the end of the final round on Sunday, one bull rider will obtain the coveted Cabela's Shootout presented by DeeZee title.

Tickets start at $25.50 and guarantee you more than two hours of bull riding action, plus rock & roll music, pyrotechnics and an up-close and personal view of the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets and by phone at (505) 883-7800.

If you're someone who likes to "get in the mood" for an event by watching a movie, say like watching "Hoosiers" or "Remember the Titans" before a high school basketball or high school game, then you should see "8 Seconds" or the new "Bullrider," described on the Web as "From Oscar-nominated director Josh Aronson and Emmy-winning editor Kate Hirson ... a heart-pounding, action-packed documentary that takes you into the world of 'extreme' cowboy athletes compelled to live life on the edge."

Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colo., PBR was founded in 1992 by 20 accomplished bull riders who had a vision to make bull riding a stand-alone sport. PBR currently operates four domestic tours, including the Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler, U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company Challenger Tour, Enterprise Rent-A-Car Tour and Discovery Tour, and has a rapidly growing presence in international markets, including Brazil, Mexico, Australia and Canada. The strength of the PBR brand and the loyalty of the fan base have enabled the PBR to attract an impressive roster of blue-chip sponsors and partners. PBR's competitions can be viewed regularly on its cable channel partner, VERSUS, every Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m. In addition, the PBR will have nine events televised on the FOX and NBC networks in 2007.
