A Raley's store manager was left with "pie on his face" after a recent shoplifting at the grocery store turned into a battery with bakery products.

On Nov. 6 at about 5 p.m., Sharon Baca, 38, of Bernalillo, and Yvette Saavedra, 49, of Albuquerque, attempted to shoplift $53 worth of merchandise from the Raley's on Enchanted Hills Boulevard, according to a Rio Rancho Department of Public Safety incident report. The store's loss prevention team spotted the theft, the report said, but when, with store manager Mark Scherer, the team tried to apprehend the women, Baca fought back.

Using the only weapon she had, Baca hit Scherer with the single-layer German chocolate cake she was holding.

After the assault, DPS reported, Baca could have walked away with a citation, but she was "elusive and not definite when asked for her physical address and contact phone number." She eventually told officers that she did not have a physical address, but later gave an address in Rio Rancho.

Saavedra, meanwhile, was cited and released. Scherer's condition is unknown; he was unavailable for comment.
